AirWalk Launches Industry First IP CDMA Pilot Beacon
Highly Optimized, Cost-Effective Base Station Improves Network Profitability by Retaining Operator Service in Fringe Radio Regions
RICHARDSON, TX—January 30, 2007: AirWalk Communications, an innovator of 3G IP radio access infrastructure, today launched the PilotStation, the industry’s first IP CDMA pilot beacon. This compact, optimized pilot beacon offers operators the opportunity to retain service on their networks in areas of poor RF coverage and can support indoor/outdoor handoffs more advantageously. The functional design and ease of deployment of the PilotStation enhances network build-out costs while supporting additional revenue streams.
By transmitting the Pilot, Paging and Sync (PPS) overhead channels, the PilotStation turns inefficient channels into highly valued, revenue-generating channels. The PilotStation also captures and retains calls susceptible to interruption or loss in roaming areas such as cell edges, highways and regional borders.
“In today’s world of customer retention and seamless service, our PilotStation allows operators to offer continued service and feature functionality on cell edges or between cell sites,” said Serge Pequeux, president and CEO of AirWalk Communications. “Furthermore, the PilotStation can serve as a pilot to handoff from an in-building enterprise network to macro service, seamlessly”.
The versatile PilotStation also has the ability to extend PPS coverage to improve network performance by seamlessly transferring calls (hand-down) from high-capacity, multi-carrier cell sites to lower-capacity cell sites. The AirWalk PilotStation can be configured either in single-carrier or multi-carrier (hopping) beacon, and is available in all commercially deployed CDMA frequency bands.
